A multi-talented theater artist, Rita has a passion for community engagement. She has worked as an actor, director, playwright, and producer in the Bay Area, Singapore, and India.


As an actor, Rita has appeared in a wide range of roles, from classic dramas to contemporary comedies. She has been praised for her versatility and her ability to bring complex characters to life. Some of her notable stage credits include:



  • Dolly in Boiled Beans on Toast 

  • Gupta Madam in Taj Mahal ka Tender

  • Kamini in Divided By

  • Priya Singh in Not Equal To

  • Shoorpanakha in Thus Spake

  • Dolon in Sonata

Rita is also a gifted director and playwright. She has written and directed several original short plays, including Chameli and Bhavna & Bhuvan. She has also directed, produced and stage managed numerous productions. She recently directed ‘Name, Place, Animal, Thing’ by Annie Zaidi and produced Nilanjan Choudhury‘s â€˜The Square Root of a Sonnet’, directed by Ranjita Chakravorty. 


In addition to her work in traditional theater, Rita is also a pioneer in the field of online theater. She is the co-founding Artistic Director of Cloud Playhouse, a non-profit online platform that produces virtual performances. To date, Rita has directed and produced over 75 virtual performances at Cloud Playhouse and acted in a widely appreciated online zoom play, ‘Thus Spake Shoorpanakha…’ directed by notable playwright Mahesh Dattani during the pandemic.


In 2022, Rita made her film debut in the short film Alice Memorial Park. The film won several accolades and awards at film festivals worldwide.


Rita is committed to using her talents to enrich and empower communities through the arts. She is Executive Director at Bay Area Drama Company.
